Everything for a reason…
Have you ever had one of those days, or weeks, where everything goes differently to how you expected? Well, this week, that’s me!
First, my laptop decided enough was enough and I had to wait patiently while it gave me the dreaded blue screen of death. Then it refused to restart at all, so now I have a lovely shiny new laptop! Brilliant, except it didn’t arrive when it was supposed to. The delivery company kept me waiting until 10pm before admitting it would come the next day… which it did, just before 7pm!
So this week so far has been spent trying to remember all those passwords for everything, hunting down access codes, and moving software over. It’s a work in progress… I’m actually back on my old laptop as I write this, praying it survives until I finish this post!
An unexpected error!
Yesterday, I ordered some groceries to be delivered early this morning so I could retake photos for today’s post. When I woke up, there was a text from the store saying there had been an error processing my payment.
Sometimes I love my bank for being cautious, but other times it really winds me up! Today was one of those random ‘we’re just checking this was you’ moments… which meant my whole order was cancelled and the next delivery slot available is tomorrow, with double the delivery fee!
So, if you visit Life Diet Health often, or you know me personally, you may know that my theory is ‘everything for a reason’. So today we are going to look at that!
Look in the mirror!
Of course, I could blame everyone else for everything that has happened this week, or… I could look at it from another perspective!
Firstly, the laptop. Perhaps I was expecting too much of it. I use it most weekdays, sometimes all day. I forget to turn it off, I want it to do everything quickly, as that is what we have become accustomed to. I ask it questions and get it to search for everything, forgetting that once we had the skills to do this without technology.
We appear to have forgotten that there is more to life than the internet. We have stopped talking to people, phoning to ask for closing times, or walking to the shop to see if something is sold in that store. We have become reliant on technology and stopped thinking for ourselves.
My poor laptop was probably tired and just needed a break and… this was a chance for me to say, oh, ok, maybe I should go outside and get some fresh air!

Time to reassess
Then there’s the grocery delivery. Whilst it is very convenient to shop from the comfort of our home, looking at pictures and clicking add to basket, will I really be happy with the outcome?
Will the staff in the store picking my products select them with the care and attention I would if I was choosing them myself? Will my bananas be green? yellow? speckled? or brown? Will my fresh oat milk have tomorrow’s date on, or will it last me 3 or 4 days as I would expect?
Will my products be handled correctly or will (recalling my last delivery) my soft fruit, looking at you raspberries, be completely squashed by the 2kg of potatoes placed on top?
So, whilst it is incredibly frustrating and inconvenient that my payment was put on hold by my bank, maybe this is another one of those ‘everything happens for a reason’ moments. Maybe I was buying more than I needed? Maybe I’m supposed to go and pick all the grapes from the allotment and use those up before buying other fresh fruit?
Take a break
Who knows? Do you ever stop and think? Do you have time to stop and think? Maybe today is that day.
Take a break. Turn the laptop off. Put the phone into aeroplane mode for a while… try 5 minutes if the thought is terrifying. Just. Have. A. Break.
Step outside. Breathe the fresh air. Look at the sky. What colour is it? Are there clouds? Is it sunny? Rainy? Windy?
Sometimes we get so caught up in what goes wrong that we forget to look at what’s right in front of us. Maybe things don’t go to plan because we need reminding to slow down… to notice… to live.
If you make time, you could even bake a cake!

What can we do to remind us?
Sometimes, it is the simple things which serve as a reminder to stop and pause. Other times, we need a nudge in the right direction. Hopefully, you have read this far today and have taken a moment to pause and reflect on how technology has changed your life. We can of course add some calming influences into our homes – so next time you are shopping, pick up some candles, a new book, a bird feeder or even some colouring pens and place them somewhere obvious. When you see the candle – light it. Read a page or two. Sit and watch the birds. Doodle for a minute and just have a break.

Sharing
I hope you will stop today. Pause and have a think. Look at your days, your weeks, your months. Maybe choose one thing to do differently. Even just close your eyes now, drop your shoulders and take a couple of deep breaths. Technology is useful most definitely, but we still need to remember to have a break every now and then.

Share your thoughts. Let me know what works for you – or what you think you could change. Take that break. Have that pause. Reflect. Refocus. Breathe!
